Come Help Your Chess Club at the Spartanburg International Festival

10/1/2017

CALLING ALL CLUB MEMBERS!!

Come have fun and help out at the SPARTANBURG INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL this coming Saturday at Barnet Park!  Saturday, October 7, 11 AM-7 PM.  Bring your family and friends and have a great time!

They will have a section at the festival for sports and games including CHESS.  There will be chessboards set up for anyone to play on.  There will even be a GIANT LAWN CHESS BOARD set up.

The club will be helping oversee the chess play and maybe tutor some beginners.  Last year, I saw a lot of kids playing on the giant board with their parents and having a great time with the challenge.

A lot of people sat at the tables to play.  Some were learning for the first time. Others were well seasoned players.  Rick Keller was there and seemed to enjoy just playing at the tables with whoever needed an opponent.

We really need members who can spend an hour or two helping out.  You can split your time between helping out and enjoying the rest of the festival.  Enjoy good music, great international cuisine and lots of game for kids and adults.

This will go a long way to helping promote the Spartanburg Chess Club and raise awareness and interest in our activities.  As a member, you can help out and support your club.  It will be something to be proud of.

Help us plan this out by contacting us and letting us know what hours you can participate.

Thanks.  See you there.

The Chess Club Gathered For A Christmas Dinner!

12/6/2016

Every year our chess club gathers to enjoy good food, good company and good chess, as well as share in the Christmas spirit. This year the Festivities were held at Los Mexicanos Restaurante, Duncan, SC. Everyone enjoyed good food. We held a club meeting (a really short one) in which we elected the club officers for 2017. Then we settled in for some pleasant company and, of course, CHESS.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Enjoy this slide show of our dinner...

Chess at the International  Festival in Spartanburg

10/2/2016

Club members just enjoyed a day of Chess at the International Festival in Spartanburg.  We enjoyed a global variety of good food and played some Chess with both kids and adults.  They had a giant lawn chess set as well as a table for people to play on regular boards.

It was a beautiful day for this outdoor event. Thousands of people enjoyed the festival and a surprising number came over to play and learn chess.  We helped oversee the activity and helped coach some of the kids who played enthusiastically if not proficiently.  There were lots of parents playing with their kids (great family activity).

Special thanks go out to Rick Keller for his help and participation. Rick spent a lot of time at the table boards taking on challengers of which there were many.

I'm pleased to report that both the lawn chess set and the table boards were being kept occupied for the whole five hours I was there.  When I left, there were still people taking their turns at the boards.

This might be something to think about as a club for future activities.
